Session 2 — New Threads Introduced
Nightfall — Three Kills Confirmed
- Nightfall admitted during the Eclipse lab confrontation that Mary Matthews was the third person they have killed with low-frequency powers
- Two other victims are unnamed. Their identities, circumstances, and connection to the Wavelength ecology are unknown
- Stakes: The moral weight of working with — or even tolerating — Nightfall is heavier than documented. Jason is now carrying information about a triple killer, not a single incident. The two unnamed victims could be anyone — including people connected to the team.
- What the team doesn’t know: Who the other two victims were, and whether their deaths followed the same Wavelength-driven pattern or were something else entirely.
Jason Rejected the Wavelength Pairing
- Nightfall attempted to pair with Jason during the Eclipse lab confrontation — the Wavelength ecology’s intended resolution for a High Spectrum host carrying unanchored Low Spectrum energy
- Jason refused. This is the first time a High Spectrum host has rejected the complementary pairing
- The Low Spectrum energy inside Jason remains unanchored. The countdown did not stop. It may have accelerated
- Stakes: The instability is now explicitly unresolved. Jason knows what the Wavelengths want him to do — and he refused. The question of what happens to energy that has nowhere to go is now live. And the pull toward Morgan is still present from two directions (High Spectrum faction instinct and Artemis’s dying push), undistinguished and still pulling.
Eclipse Research Center Destroyed
- Casper, Jason, and Rhys discovered and destroyed an Eclipse research building containing PROMETHEUS equipment
- The team extracted some intel about PROMETHEUS before destroying the site
- Eclipse now knows the team was there. The facility is gone. Eclipse’s response is unpredictable
- Stakes: The team has drawn first blood against PROMETHEUS — but without the full picture of the program’s scope. Destroying one site does not destroy the program. And Eclipse now has confirmation that the team is actively targeting them. Beat 7 (Eclipse ambush) may arrive sooner and harder than planned.
Sterling Outed — City Legitimacy Crisis
- Signal publicly revealed that Cosmic Knight is Darkstar’s engineered son
- The city is questioning whether the team’s most powerful member was built to cull them
- Sterling was extracted safely by Adrian, Sloane, Avi, and Mason Matthews
- Stakes: The Scion Respect mechanic is now harder. The city’s greatest leader may be actively hostile. What Sterling does with the fake corpse information — go public, tell the team, or sit on it — is unresolved. Raze, who already believes Darkstar is dead, is now operating in a world where Sterling’s identity is public.
Mason Matthews — Inside the Team’s Orbit
- Mason Matthews was brought by Avi to the Sterling extraction
- Adrian trusted Mason enough to include him — neither knows the other’s secret identity
- Mason is not part of the team. But he is now aware that the team operates from the Hall, that Sterling is Cosmic Knight, and that Adrian and Sloane are embedded in the team’s support structure
- Stakes: Mason is a civilian with a cat burglar’s skillset now carrying knowledge of the team’s location and operations. He is Adrian’s close friend and unaware of Adrian’s Breakpoint identity — but he has just seen Adrian operating in an official capacity. Whether Mason puts the pieces together is an open question.
Casimir Vane — Mayoral Bid
- Vane announced a run for mayor — man under indictment, running for the city’s highest office
- The DA fundraiser gala is reframed as a benefit for first responders — tomorrow night
- Stakes: The gala is no longer just a DA fundraiser. It’s a campaign event for a mayoral candidate with Eclipse and Signal connections. Vane demonstrating that he doesn’t have to hide is the point. The Vane/Eclipse/Signal connection becomes publicly legible here.
Session 1 — New Threads Introduced
SHADE Constructs — What Avi Knows
- Avi’s telepathy cracked the SHADE constructs during the press conference fight
- Confirmed via vision: The constructs are built from human bodies. They were commissioned by Casimir Vane. They were being controlled by Signal at the time of the attack.
- Avi has this intel. The team has this intel. It is not yet public.
- Stakes: The construct bodies are the most legally explosive piece — that’s not corruption, that’s a war crime. What the players do with this information and when determines how hard it lands.
- What Avi does not know yet: The Eclipse connection. The PROMETHEUS program. The scale of production.
Signal’s A.E.G.I.S. Hack
- Signal took down all A.E.G.I.S. comms during the press conference — simultaneous with the SHADE construct attack
- Used the window to broadcast Kiara’s full origin: engineered nature, original mission to assess Earth for removal, “defective” Auditor designation, barista civilian cover, and the internal A.E.G.I.S. transcript of their argument with Paragon over whether to trust her
- A.E.G.I.S. is in full lockdown. They cannot confirm what else was accessed.
- Stakes: Three targets damaged at once — Kiara’s safety, Paragon’s credibility, A.E.G.I.S.’s institutional competence. Signal is operating at a level the agency did not anticipate.
Kiara’s Departure
- Kiara left Earth following Signal’s broadcast — her cover is blown, her origin is public, and staying meant becoming a political object
- She left Sterling a message: she explained her reasons, expressed belief in him, said she wants to find her place in the universe
- Her departure is a choice, not a flight. She left on her own terms.
- Scion mechanical note: Kiara is Sterling’s Personal Idol Respect slot. Asynchronous contact ruling in effect — moves made in response to her messages count toward Respect.
- Stakes: Paragon’s reputation took damage defending her. She left before she could answer that. Sterling is holding a message from someone who made a deliberate exit. What that costs him is his to carry.
Lila Ortega — Influence Gained
- Agent Lila Ortega (MANIFEST director) was present at the press conference and attacked by SHADE constructs
- The players saved her during the fight
- The team now has influence over Lila Ortega — a bureaucratic inside contact at exactly the moment A.E.G.I.S. is in lockdown and circling wagons
- Stakes: She owes them. She also works for an agency that is now compromised and defensive. Those two facts will create friction eventually.
Raze — Revenge Plot
- Raze (Sterling’s half-sibling, Darkstar’s engineered child) was off Darkstar’s ship hunting Sterling when the ship was destroyed
- He does not know if Darkstar is alive or dead. He is operating under the assumption that Darkstar is dead.
- After Beat 4: Signal broadcasts “corpse” footage confirming Darkstar’s death. The city believes it. Raze believed it already. Neither Signal nor Raze has verified it. Sterling knows the corpse is fake.
- His original mission — retrieve Sterling — is now a revenge plot. He has license to kill.
- Stakes: Sterling and Raze are in mirror positions: both lost Darkstar, both defined by that loss, moving in opposite directions because of it. But Sterling now carries information Raze doesn’t have — Darkstar may be alive. If Raze learns Sterling knew and didn’t tell him, that’s its own kind of betrayal. Raze is the most personal physical threat Sterling faces in this arc.
Darkstar’s “Corpse” — Fake Footage
- Signal’s Beat 4 broadcast included footage of what appears to be Darkstar’s body — visual confirmation that the Renegade Force killed him
- Sterling recognized it as a fake. Wrong energy signature, wrong decay pattern. He knows his father’s biology.
- The city, A.E.G.I.S., and Signal all now operate on the assumption Darkstar is dead. Sterling knows it’s unconfirmed.
- Played in Session 2. The reveal landed. What Sterling does with this information is his call. He can go public (undermining Signal’s narrative but confirming he has knowledge no human should have), tell the team only (building trust but creating a shared secret), or sit on it (carrying the weight alone). Each choice has consequences. Raze’s position — believing Darkstar is dead — is another pressure point.
Darkstar’s Weapon — Seeded Thread
- Working assumption (GM eyes only): Darkstar survived the ship’s destruction, wounded
- He is building a deterrent weapon designed to permanently end the Paragon and Renegade Force cycle
- Evidence should surface gradually: anomalous Glass District research pointing to an unnamed buyer, Quantum noticing a cosmic signature being mapped, Raze’s movements correlating with Darkstar’s last work sites
- Stakes: His diagnosis of the problem may not be wrong. His solution will be. This is Arc 4 territory seeded now.
Casimir Vane — Mayoral Candidate
- Casimir was arrested following the warehouse event (team’s origin incident) but is out on bail
- He has announced a run for mayor. The DA fundraiser gala is reframed as a benefit for first responders — tomorrow night
- The players have Avi’s construct visions connecting him to the SHADE units. He does not know what they know yet.
- The gala is tomorrow night. It is now also a campaign event.
- Stakes: Vane is not hiding. He is demonstrating that he doesn’t have to. The mayoral bid reframes the entire Vane arc — he’s not just a financial backer of Eclipse, he’s a political figure seeking legitimate power. The team hitting the Eclipse lab makes his position more dangerous and more urgent.
Aubrey’s Text (Nova / Avi) — Planted Seed
- Aubrey reached out to Avi by text: something to the effect of “I saw Carter last week. I don’t know what I’m telling you except I thought you should know.”
- Civilian thread Avi can pull, ignore, or sit on. Aubrey is an unwitting Signal-adjacent witness.
- Stakes: If followed up, Aubrey eventually describes the person Carter was with — a face that connects to Signal’s network.
Lily Matthews’ Text (Apollo / Jason) — Planted Seed
- Lily Matthews (Mary’s 15-year-old sister) reached out to Jason by text
- Content TBD / to emerge in play
- Stakes: Lily is Jason’s connection to what Nightfall took from him at a human scale. She is not a mission. She is a person.
Priority Threads — Active Right Now
Riley’s Physical Deterioration
- Slower healing, stiff joints, injuries that don’t recover. He knows he’s getting too old for a city that isn’t aging with him.
- Hiding it from A.E.G.I.S. medical staff. He would “be damned before letting them know.”
- Planted signals: knees buckling in training, awareness of the decline in internal monologue
- Stakes: What breaks first — his body, his cover, or his relationships?
Signal’s Recorded Evidence
- Signal was listening during Riley’s hospital visit to Carter Williams
- Riley threatened Carter on Avi’s behalf, off-books and alone. Signal recorded it.
- Signal’s plan: build toward a public exposure event with this as a centerpiece
- Stakes: When Signal releases this, it is a targeted strike against Recluse’s moral authority
The Scythe Blind Spot (AEGIS-SYC-REDACTED)
- Riley’s precognitive ability has a documented blind spot relative to a subject called Scythe
- A.E.G.I.S. knows about this gap. They are deliberately not briefing Riley.
- Sloane has referenced this; it is already on Riley’s radar as a concern
- Scythe is Adrian Vega’s girlfriend. Second-generation MANIFEST asset, built post-2010 restructuring as a contingency for the day Recluse becomes a liability. Dormant — not yet activated.
- The blind spot is not a power. It is a conditioning discipline: she generates none of the physiological tells Riley’s flash depends on.
- Shaw sanctioned the deepened relationship as operationally advantageous. Scythe believes it doesn’t compromise her. She has never been deployed to find out.
- Stakes: When this surfaces it doesn’t just compromise Riley operationally — it destroys the one relationship he’s built that he feels unambiguously good about. And it puts Adrian in the middle.
The Virek Papers
- Still mostly encrypted. A 2022 data cache confirmed Paragon’s 1971 election intervention.
- The cache also contains a revelation: Ethan Roberts has known how to end the Paragon cycle and has chosen not to act.
- Publication delayed by legal injunction. The information is out there — just not widely accessible yet.
- Stakes: When this fully surfaces, it reframes Paragon’s entire tenure.
Carter Williams / Renegade Force
- Carter Williams is the current Renegade Force host
- Was paralyzed from the waist down prior to bonding; the Force healed him on binding
- Has personal history tied to Avi’s backstory
- Signal is using him as a pawn in his campaign
- Stakes: Carter is both a weapon in Signal’s hands and a person with a genuine grievance
Riley’s Parasite
- Riley contracted a parasite on Darkstar’s ship during the Alliance’s early years (~2015–2016 abduction response mission) — not an accident; deliberately introduced with a specific biological target
- The encounter happened on one of the Alliance’s first formal operations. The mission was a success by surface metrics. Riley did not know he had been exposed when he left.
- Parasite has bonded to the spider gene specifically. Reads, partially, as the biology it’s attached to — hard to detect through standard medical screening
- Goal: Strip Riley’s moral restraint rather than kill him. Something in the spider gene’s expression is connected to how he processes ethical constraints. The parasite is working against that.
- Currently indistinguishable from ordinary aging and accumulated wear. Riley is already hiding the physical decline; the parasite is hidden inside that hiding.
- Zara’s signal is amplifying. Her genetic entanglement with Riley’s spider gene means she passively receives his distress. It’s getting louder. She doesn’t know why.
- Darkstar introduced it and is monitoring progress. Degree of active surveillance vs. retroactive discovery: open question.
- Planted signals: incomplete healing in training scenes, ambient lethargy, Zara’s growing unease
- Stakes: How does a stripped moral restraint manifest behaviorally — and who notices the change in Riley before he does? What does treatment require, and does it mean exposing everything he’s been hiding?
Eclipse / PROMETHEUS
- Eclipse is a legitimate biotech corporation running a classified black program: PROMETHEUS
- Three revenue streams: superhuman deterrence (countermeasures and dampeners), controlled superhuman assets (synthetic human drones), synthetic power manufacture (reverse-engineered enhanced capability)
- CEO: Edmund Crale — Crale family present at A.E.G.I.S.’s 1925 founding; built Eclipse using generational institutional knowledge of A.E.G.I.S.’s oversight architecture. PROMETHEUS has stayed invisible because he designed it using the same frameworks his family helped build. [GM eyes only — do not surface until players reach PROMETHEUS directly]
- Casimir Vane is a knowing, ideological investing partner. His civic sincerity is real. So is his complicity. His endgame: a Vane Security arm providing civic enhanced-individual deterrence — police loyalty now, controlled metahuman assets next, monopoly on what “safety” means in Halden City. Now a mayoral candidate — pursuing legitimacy through political power.
- Rhys/Noc has Eclipse’s proprietary compound running through his biology. Unclosed asset file. Eclipse wants the asset back.
- Marcus Webb’s resurrection used research in theoretical overlap with PROMETHEUS (Dr. Adeyemi’s cellular regrowth work). Adeyemi disappeared after — Eclipse resolved the irregularity. Riley does not know what happened to her. Marcus is a background character, not an active thread. He is investigating Eclipse-adjacent anomalies independently but is not currently on a collision course with the main plot. Available for future use.
- The 2020 Glass District gravity core disaster that created Aegis Prime has a flagged but unconfirmed Eclipse connection.
- Session 2: Team found and destroyed an Eclipse research building. PROMETHEUS equipment was present and being destroyed by Nightfall when they arrived. The team extracted some intel and then destroyed the facility. Eclipse knows the team was there.
- Stakes: PROMETHEUS is not a shadow conspiracy — it’s a company that decided the enhanced individual question is a business problem. When it surfaces, the frame isn’t “villain’s secret lair” — it’s institutional, rational, and has been running for years. The team’s first strike was destructive, not investigative. They may have destroyed evidence they needed. And Eclipse is now aware they have active hostile contacts.
Background Threads — Seeded, Not Yet Active
| Thread | What Was Planted | Potential Payoff |
|---|---|---|
| Three missing Glass District researchers | SEIB has no confirmed causal link as of 2025. Possible Eclipse connection — unconfirmed. One or two may have been working on force-binding theory with an unnamed buyer. | A pattern is being suppressed or hasn’t been recognized yet. If it connects to PROMETHEUS or Darkstar’s weapon research, the researchers stumbled into something they weren’t supposed to see. |
| Darkstar’s weapon | Wounded and in recovery. Building a deterrent to permanently end the Paragon/Renegade cycle. Evidence seeded via Glass District research anomalies, Quantum’s cosmic signature readings, and Raze’s movements. | Arc 4 territory. Correct diagnosis, catastrophic solution. |
| Joseph Persico’s return | Released from prison; re-establishing his Dockside network | First major street-level confrontation with the new team |
| The Hall — locked room (3/F) | Key not transferred with the building. Room is larger than the 1938 city filing indicates. | What’s in it, who put it there, and why wasn’t the key included in the transfer? |
| Local 44 records (3/F) | Six boxes of union records, 1938–present. Unexamined. | Could contain records of early Ironworks enhanced individual history — the 1958 Blackwater Harbor incident, labor disputes with anomalous outcomes, names that connect to current threads. |
| Darcy’s student Deon | 16-year-old track athlete healing faster than he should. Darcy has noticed. Has not told Riley yet — still deciding if it’s her place. | When she tells him, and how Riley handles being handed a kid who didn’t ask to be found. |
| Wraith’s leak campaign | Dani Whittaker has already been responsible for three major document leaks | She finds something that can’t be contained |
| Sable & Fault | Petra Mace (EM manipulation) and Eli Crane (structural resonance) operating as unregistered teen heroes across Riverside Ward and the Ironworks. Their territory was hit in the Eclipse strike. Not appearing this session. Held for the Riley parasite arc or later introduction. | Background seed only. Do not surface in Session 3. |
| Cora Reyes | Woman running an informal daycare from the ground floor of a building Sable and Fault have designated as a target. Unknown to both of them. Not appearing this session. Held for later. | Background seed only. |
| Natalia / Scythe mirror | Natalia doesn’t know Scythe exists. Two women, same program, opposite conclusions. | If Natalia ever learns A.E.G.I.S. ran MANIFEST again after she left — and what it produced — that information lands differently than anything else could. |
PC-Adjacent Threads — Tied to Player Character Backstories
| Thread | PC | What Was Planted | Stakes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jason’s countdown | Apollo | Holding both photokinesis and Artemis’s shadow power; no one was meant to carry both. He can feel it. | Does he find a reason to live past Nightfall, or is this a death mission? |
| Nightfall / Mary’s death | Apollo | Nightfall killed Artemis and left Jason a warning he didn’t hear. Connection: Morgan Vale, 2022 manifestation, Ironworks A.E.G.I.S. materials lab. | Apollo joined the team for this. The hunt is the frame. The question is what he finds when he gets there. |
| Lily Matthews | Apollo | Mary’s 15-year-old sister reached out to Jason by text after Session 1. | Lily is not a mission. She is a person. What Jason does with that is his call. |
| Darkstar / Sterling’s defection | Cosmic Knight | Sterling is Darkstar’s engineered son. He defected. Darkstar is wounded and building something. Raze is hunting Sterling with license to kill. Sterling knows the Beat 4 corpse footage is fake — Darkstar’s death is not confirmed. | |
| Kiara’s departure | Cosmic Knight | Sterling’s mentor left. He has a message from her. The Respect relationship continues asynchronously. | What it means to carry someone’s belief in you when they’re not there. |
| Celeste Timber | Cosmic Knight | Sterling’s first target. He couldn’t do it. She doesn’t know he exists. | Whether and how this surfaces is the player’s call — but she’s out there. |
| Eclipse / Rhys’s compound | Noc | Eclipse’s biotech compound is running through Rhys’s body. Ivan is dead. Eclipse wants the asset back. Eclipse does not fully believe the death record Ivan falsified — they know Noch is the asset they’re looking for; they are still working out Rhys’s current civilian identity. Ivan’s research was seized after his death. | Eclipse has a direct, personal claim on Rhys that has never been resolved. The hunt is active, not hypothetical. |
| Ivan’s research | Noc | Whatever Eclipse was doing with the compound exists in files somewhere. | If those files surface — through Rhys, through someone else, through SEIB — the compound becomes a larger story. |
| Carter Williams / Avi’s origin | Nova | Carter’s paralysis came from the incident at the party. The Force healed him on bonding. Avi does not know the connection. Riley knows. Signal knows. | The person who assaulted Avi is now the Renegade Force host. That fact has to come out eventually. |
| Aubrey’s text | Nova | Aubrey reached out after Session 1. Unwitting Signal-adjacent witness. | Avi’s to pull or not. |
| Quantum / Avi’s parentage | Nova | Dr. Javier Mendez is Avi’s biological father. Quantum discovered Avi’s existence shortly after birth and chose not to make contact — personal relationships are a hazard by his operating philosophy, especially given his condition. Avi does not know. They are on the same team. | Slow burn. Earns its weight through relationship development, not a reveal scene. |
| Scythe / Casey Holt | Adrian’s girlfriend. A dormant MANIFEST asset built to neutralize Riley. Adrian doesn’t know. Riley doesn’t know. Not introduced yet. Held for the Riley parasite arc — may appear as a background interaction but not planned for main plot until then. |
