Skills & Capabilities

No metahuman ability.

  • Authentication and forgery — trained art conservator. Can authenticate or fabricate provenance documentation at a level that fools institutional experts.
  • Institutional infiltration — deep knowledge of Crownpoint museum, gallery, and corporate collection security. Has defeated every major system in the city at least once.
  • Contact network — fences, private collectors, and cultural repatriation advocates who provide cover and logistics.
  • No combat training — her contingency for physical confrontation is not being in one.

Background

Nadia grew up in Riverside Ward, won a scholarship to the Halden City Institute of Fine Arts, and spent four years becoming one of the most technically gifted conservators her program had produced. She also spent those four years developing a thorough understanding of how much of Crownpoint’s private collection culture is built on pieces that were never legitimately acquired.

She began stealing at 24. Her targets are exclusively Crownpoint institutions. Her fence network moves pieces through channels that eventually return them to the communities or families they came from. She has a coherent moral framework for this and will explain it once if asked.

As of approximately six weeks ago, she lifted something from a Vane Capital private storage facility that was not art. She took it because it was in the case and she was already inside. She did not look at it closely until she was home.

She still does not know exactly what it is. She knows it is not a painting. She knows at least two parties have been looking for it since she took it, neither of whom are police.

Character Profile

Nadia presents as poised, slightly academic, and faintly amused by most situations. This is accurate. She is also more frightened than she has ever been in her professional life and has no framework for the kind of attention she has now attracted.

Her moral logic is internally consistent: objects taken without consent from communities that had no say don’t belong to the people who hold them now. She has made her peace with the law disagreeing. What she has not made peace with is the possibility that she has stumbled into something that will get her killed before she can figure out what it is.

She does not want to be a hero. She does not want to be anyone’s asset. She wants to finish the job, return the piece she came for, and disappear whatever she accidentally took in a way that doesn’t result in her death.

Key Tensions

TensionDescription
The item she doesn’t understandShe has something Eclipse wants. She doesn’t know what it is or what it does.
Framework failureShe steals from institutions she considers illegitimate. This is different. She doesn’t have a rule for this.
The unfinished jobShe still hasn’t returned the original piece she came for. She can’t bring herself to leave it.

The Item

What Nadia took is a compact data storage device with biological components — a PROMETHEUS research archive, physical backup, containing cell-line documentation for two synthetic human drone subjects. It is not labeled. It does not look like what it is.

Eclipse wants it back. A physical backup outside their facility is a security failure with serious consequences if read by someone who understands what they’re looking at.

GM note: The item is the hook, not the resolution. Nadia is the vehicle for delivering a PROMETHEUS evidence fragment to the players through a route that bypasses official channels entirely.

Relationships

PersonRelationship
EclipseThey want what she has. She doesn’t know who they are yet.
SignalPossibly aware she exists and that she has something interesting.
Sloane / ArachneSloane’s network has likely flagged Nadia’s activity. They haven’t intersected yet.

Voice & Dialogue Notes

  • Precise, dry, faintly professorial
  • Does not apologize for what she does — will explain it if pushed, once
  • Speaks about theft the way an academic speaks about methodology
  • Does not perform fear. Is afraid. These are compatible.

Open Questions

  • Does she eventually read the device? Does she understand what she’s looking at?
  • Who in her fence network has already been reached by Eclipse?
  • What was the original piece she came for, and who does it belong to?
