  • Instantaneous trajectory calculation
  • Real-time physiological reading of opponents
  • Advanced collateral damage modeling

Background

Sandra Vega, Adrian’s mother, was killed in 2006 during a botched early intervention by Riley Thomas (Recluse). Adrian was two years old. He has no memory of her β€” only photographs, his father’s silences, and eventually the trail of evidence.

He spent years obsessively researching vigilante activity in Halden City, driven by one question: if someone had been there, could she have been saved? He uncovered Riley’s identity. Instead of exposing him, he confronted Riley directly and asked to be trained. Riley agreed.

Where Recluse fights because of guilt, Adrian fights because of clarity. Their partnership is not one of debt or redemption β€” it is two people determined not to repeat the night that made them.

They are the most tactically precise partnership in the Alliance network.

Character Profile

Adrian is steady. He processes hard things cleanly and keeps moving. He is a natural anchor for people around him β€” the person others lean on without fully realizing it.

He has a dry, relaxed humor and genuine warmth. He is not performing okayness; he is mostly okay, which is rarer than it sounds in this world.

His relationship with Riley is the defining mentorship in the story β€” but it is not a simple one. Riley trained him out of guilt and stayed out of genuine investment. Adrian knows more about what that night cost Riley than Riley realizes.

Introduction to the Players β€” The Hall

Adrian is already at the Hall when the players arrive. He has been using it as a solo base for months β€” Riley cleared it with Paragon before the team was formed, and Adrian has treated the ground floor training space as his own since then. He is not territorial about it. He just got there first.

How he presents: He’s doing something mundane when the players walk in β€” running drills, reviewing footage, eating takeout at the equipment cage. He introduces himself without ceremony. He already knows who most of them are, because Riley briefed him and because he did his own research. He does not make a big deal of either.

His role in the space: The older sibling energy is real but it is not performed. He does not lecture. He does not position himself as an authority. What he does is be competent and present in a way that is quietly reassuring β€” the person who already knows where the good gear is, which training setups actually work, and that the side entrance on Renner is better than the main door. He has been doing this longer than the players have. He is not going to make them feel bad about that.

What he offers the team:

  • Tactical read on the Ironworks and Riverside Ward β€” he grew up here, he has been operating here for two years
  • A direct line to Riley when Riley is available and a steady presence when he isn’t
  • Someone who has already made the mistakes the new team hasn’t made yet and is not precious about sharing what he learned

What to watch for: Adrian’s steadiness is genuine, but it is also load-bearing in ways he may not fully recognize. Riley going down at the arc’s end removes the anchor of his own mentorship relationship. That crack β€” the moment his equanimity is actually tested β€” is an Arc 2 thread, not Arc 1. In this arc, he is the reliable one. Let him be that. It makes what comes later hit harder.

The Scythe thread: His girlfriend. He does not know what she is. She is a dormant A.E.G.I.S. MANIFEST asset built as a contingency against Riley β€” inserted into his life as a proximity vector. The relationship developed past what the program designed. Adrian has no reason to suspect anything. This is the thing that will compromise his clarity when it surfaces. Do not surface it in Arc 1.

Voice & Dialogue Notes

  • Relaxed, dry, genuinely funny
  • Anchoring presence β€” doesn’t perform stability, actually has it
  • Teases Riley about being old with real affection
  • Knows when to push and when to let something sit
  • With the new team: easy, welcoming, zero pretension about being the experienced one

Open Questions

  • How long has he been with Scythe β€” months, over a year?
  • Has he introduced her to Riley directly, or does Riley only know she exists in passing?
  • Does his hyper-cognitive stress response give him any edge in reading people under normal conditions β€” has anything about Scythe ever felt slightly off without him being able to name why?
  • What does he do when Riley falls β€” does he step into the mentor role for the team, or does losing Riley crack something in him?
